PerinatalTemp

Maternal temperature during labor and newborn temperature in the first hours of life. A connected approach to clinical research.

Perinatal monitoring

Connecting information before and after birth.

PerinatalTemp is a technology in development for monitoring maternal temperature during labor and newborn temperature in the first hours of life.

The proposal combines individual sensors, wireless communication and a centralized platform. It aims to study thermal changes along this pathway and generate information that may support maternal and neonatal research and care.

One pathway, two stages of monitoring

From maternal admission to the baby’s first hours

PerinatalTemp provides continuous temperature monitoring, connecting two critical stages of the perinatal journey.

From mother to baby, one connected story.

Maternal admission

Hospital monitoring begins

1

During labor

Follow maternal temperature from hospital admission to birth, recording changes throughout labor.

2

After birth

Monitor newborn temperature in the first hours of life, allowing thermal patterns during this period to be studied.

First hours of life

Continuity of monitoring

The described pathway involves maternal measurements followed by newborn measurements after birth. It does not constitute direct fetal temperature measurement.

From monitoring to knowledge

How information reaches the care team

Sensors, wireless connectivity and a central platform work together to make temperature data accessible, secure and useful to healthcare teams.

Individual sensors

Contact sensors collect maternal and newborn temperature data.

Connected communication

A mobile phone or fixed antenna transmits data to the monitoring platform.

Central platform

Data visualization, storage and management.

A better-informed team

The team can view maternal and newborn temperature data in one place, supporting monitoring and research.

The proposed architecture includes cloud deployment, expansion to multiple sensors, encryption features and backups. Technical configuration and data management should be defined for each project.

Clinical study proposal

What can thermal trends add to the study of neonatal sepsis?

The proposal seeks to investigate associations between maternal temperature during labor, newborn temperature after birth and a diagnosis of neonatal sepsis.

Characterize patterns

Describe how maternal and newborn temperatures change over the monitoring period.

Explore associations

Analyze how thermal data relate to the clinical diagnosis of neonatal sepsis.

Build evidence

Assess what complementary information these data may offer to research and future practice.

These are research questions. The proposal does not establish that PerinatalTemp diagnoses, predicts or prevents neonatal sepsis. Monitoring and clinical decisions remain the responsibility of the care team.

Clinical collaboration

Research together. Develop with clinical practice.

BirthTech welcomes discussions with institutions and teams interested in assessing the feasibility of a clinical study using the technology. Collaboration may cover protocol design, team training and data analysis.

The protocol, responsibilities, data protection and applicable approvals must be agreed before any study begins.
